Spectrum U is a new website jam-packed with important information for students on the autism spectrum who are planning for college.
Liz is a mom with a mission. Her son will graduate high school this year and they’ve been researching college options together. It’s been a challenge. Resources exist, but they’re scattered all over the net. Liz wanted other families to have an easier time finding what they need to begin their own college explorations. In less than a year, she’s built Spectrum U into a treasure-trove of essential resources.
You’ll find school profiles for a growing number of colleges from every state. Services and key features of interest to students on the spectrum are highlighted for each school.
There are excellent articles and links. Teens can learn what to expect at college, and how to choose a school that’s a good fit. Various types of support services are listed for consideration. There are many links to resources that will help teens learn skills, make informed decisions and connect with others.
Liz explains that Spectrum U “does not purport to be the be-all and end-all for choosing a college that will best suit any particular individual. It only collects others’ experiences and information, to use as a jumping-off place for more exploration.”
Each student’s unique gifts and needs must be considered. Nothing replaces campus visits and very specific questions. But oh, what a great “jumping off place” Liz has given us in Spectrum U!
