How can our kids prepare for a career in a tough job market?
There are no simple answers. For anyone. But we can learn from the experiences of successful young adults.
Click here to watch a video called “Learn and Earn” from the University of Washington’s DO-IT program.
What struck you?
As I watch this video, I’m impressed by how well these young people have come to know themselves.
They’ve assessed their own interests and strengths through a variety of experiences, they’ve researched careers, been involved in job shadowing, volunteering, internships and part time work experiences. They’ve also come to understand the accommodations they need and have learned how to request them.
What did you learn from these young people? Did you find the CAREERS acronym helpful? What will be your next step in supporting your child to prepare for a career?

Determination and persistence, and not fear of failure, is what drives success in employment as shown in the video.
Here’s to determination and persistence! Thanks for you comment Jim.
